About the Workshop

An empty stage is a canvas of infinite possibilities, but it can also be a trap. Too often, performers live entirely "in their heads," resulting in scenes that feel flat, rootless, or disconnected from the world around them. Audiences don't just listen to words; they read your presence, your posture, and how you interact with the invisible world around you.

In this intensive 2-hour workshop, instructor Mike Devine shifts the focus outward. You will learn how to turn the physical stage environment into a vital, living character in your scenes. This session cuts through performance anxiety by giving you concrete, spatial techniques to ground your body, expand your stage presence, and instantly texture the space you inhabit.

What You’ll Learn & Practice:

  • The Shared Canvas: Master the art of environmental consistency—learning how to build, maintain, and respect physical objects and spaces so they feel undeniably real to both your partner and the audience.

  • Spatial Relationships (Proxemics): Explore how the physical distance between characters on stage instantly signals status, intimacy, power dynamics, and underlying conflict before a word is spoken.

  • Maximized Body Language: Discover how to break out of standard physical habits, using targeted posture, weight distribution, and deliberate movement to project strong character choices instantly.

  • The Stage as an Ally: How to read and utilize the geometry of the stage itself to direct the audience's focus naturally and maximize the visual impact of every moment.

Who Is This For?

This masterclass is a must for improvisers who want to build richer, more immersive object work and environments, as well as actors looking to command their stage blocking with authentic physical purpose and confidence.

Space is Strictly Limited: To ensure every single participant gets dedicated stage time, direct coaching, and personalized feedback, enrollment for this session is capped.
