Learning improv is useful for your child for so many reasons. Here are a few of them:

  • Active Listening. Improv will strengthen your child's active listening skills, which are crucial to all of their relationships, including at school and at home.
  • Body Language. The way your child moves, sits, and stands can be just as communicative as the words they say. Improv will teach them how to convey their openness to listening physically as well as audibly.
  • Communication. As the world reconnects more every day, it's important that we don't forget how to communicate our ideas and feelings to one another. The most crucial lesson your child will learn in improv is how to express themself clearly and concisely, even in front of strangers or in a crowd.
  • Collaboration and Team Building. A crucial tenet of improv learning how to work together to create something as a common goal. Improv will teach your child not only how to lead, but also how to be supportive in a group environment.

The Bit's owner taught for years at the  middle school and high school levels. If you'd like to see a performance prior to committing, we have a monthly kids show.

INSTRUCTOR SUSIE CARROLL. Susie began creating alternate realities onstage when she realized she wasn’t a fan of actual reality and preferred to make up her own. She is a graduate of the Annoyance and iO Theater improv programs, performs at The Bit Theater in Aurora, has been the member of various improv teams throughout Chicagoland and has also written and performed sketch shows at Second City, The Bit Theater, and Westside Improv in Wheaton.  She hopes that training and experience makes her adequately entertaining, but if not she’ll keep trying until she is. She lives in Downers Grove with her husband, two dogs and two adult children who resist her ongoing efforts to smother them with overabundant affection.

We will add classes for additional age levels based on demand, so if your child isn't in the right bracket for this class, please sign up for our mailing list to get updates on additional classes.
